A new European doctoral programme launching in the field of design research

Date: 2024.01.24
The application platform is now open for the CoDesign4Transitions (The Sustainable Transitions through Democratic Design Doctoral Network) programme, in which the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) will play a significant role. Created in collaboration with eight universities from seven countries, the interdisciplinary doctoral programme will accept 13 candidates, one of which will have the opportunity to do research in Budapest, at MOME, for a period of three years.

Spanning four years, the Marie Sklodowska Curie project aims to address current global challenges and facilitate the green transition through novel approaches to design research, focusing on democratising climate protection and innovation, with a wide variety of diverse topics such as the elderly, education, and energy consumption. Research areas include intersections of several design disciplines, including co-design, product and service design, as well as other fields. Crossing the line between design and other scientific domains is an important aspect of the programme.

“The doctoral candidate researching at MOME is expected to focus on the intersections of design, climate sciences, and social responsibility, mostly with the help of practice-based research tools. The goal is to develop practical concepts and frameworks with real applicability in the future throughout their studies involving international trainings”, said Head of the Social Hub of the MOME IC, Senior Researcher, and one of the supervisors for the programme in Budapest Bori Fehér.

Participants will not only gain international experience over the course of the programme but also receive a fixed-term university position, working together with corporate partners, government actors, and civil organisations under mentoring.

At MOME, the programme is implemented in a collaboration between the Doctoral School and the Innovation Center, with Associate Professor Judit Bényei and Senior Researcher Bori as supervisors. Other participating universities will include the Politecnico di Milano, Aalborg Universitet, Uniwersytet SWPS, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, RMIT Europe and the University of the Arts London.

Applications are open until 26 February.

The next online info session will take place on 25 January.
